#MAKING MR RIGHT MOVIE REVIEW ANDROID#
Peters, and is very sweet as Ulysses, the android who ends up wanting to fall in love.Įven the small & walk-on roles are fun to watch: Ben Masters as smarmy politician Steve, Frankie’s ex Hart Bochner (still gorgeous) as Trish’s soap-opera star husband (New Jersey… it’s not just a state, it’s a state of mind), even the guy who plays the tuxedo salesman! I’d definitely give this an 8 out of 10. He definitely nails the comedy aspect of Dr. She must endure grotesque indignities while, in defiance of all her better instincts, making nice with a total. I tend to think of Malkovich as an odd and ‘serious’ actor, but in looking at his film resume, he has played many strange, unique and funny roles. Daisy Edgar-Jones has a more complex assignment. I think his portrayal of the brilliant yet prissy Jeff is the highlight of the movie for me. Jeff Peters, the frustrated and anti-people scientist who designed him. Laurie Metcalf is hilarious as the desperate-for-a-man Sandy, but John Malkovich is the most fun to watch in his duel role of Ulysses, the innocent and childlike android that Frankie is hired to help, and Dr. Glenne Headley (RIP) almost steals the show as her friend Trish, whose marriage to a soap opera star is on the rocks. Even the techno-synth bossa-nova score fits the movie perfectly.Īnn Magnuson is perfect as publicist Frankie Stone, whose life seems to be unraveling on the eve of her sister’s wedding. It takes place in Miami, and has all of the gorgeous color and space-agey vibe of the mid/late 80’s. What a fun movie! So funny and quotable, and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. I probably caught parts of this on HBO way, way back in the day, but I just saw that it was directed by Susan Seidelman, who also directed one of my favorites, Desperately Seeking Susan (kind of a guilty pleasure movie of mine, but it has such a great look and vibe!), so I decided to give it a try.Ī public relations executive (Ann Magnuson) is hired by a Space firm to help teach people skills to their new android (John Malkovich), much to the chagrin of the scientist (also John Malkovich) who built him.
